The Formation chair explores the idea of the variation of the position of the same form composition and how this movement alters the complete appearance, rhythm and character of the object, transforming itself into something else, yet structurally being the same. By simple act of the rotation, three different chairs emerged, named accordingly – Formation 01, 02, 03.

Part of the new collection of ceramic furniture and objects called Abstract Formations, an interplay of shapes in repetition and combination with each other, to create more complex, interconnected structures. Exploring the individual forms and the rhythm they create when merged together with each other. The negative and positive spaces within and between them, as well as the contrast of smooth and textured surfaces and edges.

Each piece is one of a kind, resulting in slight variations from piece to piece.
Possible variations: raw white clay, raw red clay.

Ia Kutateladze is a multidisciplinary designer and artist from Tbilisi, Georgia. In 2016, moved to Berlin, where she lives and works since then. From 2019, has opened her own studio where she works on different materials, creating functional and non-functional, explorative objects. ‘A quest to directly connect personal and surrounding emotional and psychological processes with the material and form exploration. Be it symbolic or more literal. Trying to explore the link between emotions, thoughts and life processes and how they would be translated into the material and form experimentation and research. Interpreting different psychological states and ways of being, memories and other personal occurrences into physical objects and shapes. These are currently the main themes for my creative practice. ‘
