It all started in 2017, when I developed a technique that enabled me to convert a small amount of veneer into hollow, conical objects. A technique that requires little material and produces even less waste. By laser cutting or water jetting sheet material into concentric layers and assembling them by hand, I obtain organically shaped objects which are handmade in my studio. They are produced in small scale and mostly on demand. All the objects are cataloged within the “Stratum Series” collection.
Stratum Basim is the third piece in this “Stratum Series”. For this piece, we’ve put the focus on the costly and irreversible waste of a product that has taken millions of years to complete. To let people think twice about marble and other precious materials, “Stratum Basim” appears in the form of a totem as statement. From a 2cm flat plate of marble of 60 by 80cm, we created a solid looking object of 40cm high by 30cm wide.
Stratum Basim is made exclusively on request. Each time, we use a leftover piece of marble, which is more difficult to use for the company and would lead to waste.
Especially for Adorno you’re able to order a Travertin edition. Each piece is numbered as a piece unique. All pieces are made to order and can’t be returned after payment.
