A dull and boring near-futuristic world, Midtopia lies between utopia and dystopia, adjacent to Michel Foucault’s concept of Heterotopia. Early science fiction envisioned a techno-Garden of Eden, but our view shifted instead toward a decaying world driven by wars and anthropocenic events.
Yet, what if the future was neither good nor bad, but just mid?
This collection revolves around a 2052 short story where a protagonist, surviving by selling their memories to a sadistic superintelligence, suddenly contemplates escape from their sanitized purgatory.
This vessel is composed of four repeating assembled modules suggesting the invisible infrastructure of the city, such as air-conditioning units, electrical boxes, or industrial ducts. Suspended between ancient and futuristic, utilitarian and obsolete, it is weathered with a unique blend of underglaze, glaze, and metal to mimic an obsolescent vestige.
