Objects from Frames (OFF) is Cara Campos’s ongoing exploration of bicycles, subcultures, and the life of objects — taking bikes in heavily used or end-of-life condition and asking them to perform a new function at home, without hiding where they came from. The intent isn’t to upcycle so much as to pay homage to the material and craft already built into each frame.
This particular lamp was made from the first bicycle donated to Campos: a twin-tube crossbar mountain bike with a complex geometry that made it genuinely difficult to work with. The seat post was kept intact at first, then removed once it became clear the steel twin tubes provided enough strength on their own — the idea for a lamp took shape as Campos began cutting away sections of the frame and picturing the form a table lamp could take.
The finished piece has a steel bar at the rear for weight distribution, with an LED bulb wired directly through the frame. Fitted with an EU plug.
