Solid Black Stone Wide Candle Lantern – Ember Series in Cast stone by Donatas Zukauskas
Two objects in one. By day a stone-look vessel with the heft of a found object — dense, dark, archaic. By night, a candle set inside turns it into a lantern, washing slow light and shadow over the textured walls. The candle is the accent; the object is the point.
Each one is shaped by hand from recycled paper pulp blended with organic cement, mineral pigments, and binders. Dried and finished, the composite ends up closer to wood than to stone — tough, faintly elastic, slow to split. The hollow core is the whole idea: it gathers and steers candlelight, letting the flame work the surface from inside. What passes for volcanic rock in daylight becomes a living thing once lit.
There’s no attempt to even things out — cracks, surface shifts, and unpredictable texture are exactly what’s wanted. Imperfection as a way to create beauty.
