Lens Luminaire grew out of a close look at an optician’s process and production: Object Density saw an opportunity to reinstate value in imperfect, unusable optical lenses by highlighting their inherent beauty and distinctive distortions rather than treating them as waste.
The collection draws on Eindhoven’s history of lighting innovation, New Objectivity architecture, and the detailing of contemporary luxury optics, originally realised as a suspended light installation before being distilled into a range of floor and desk lamps for residential spaces. The lens used will vary from what’s pictured — it’s a genuine waste product, and that uniqueness is treated as a feature rather than a flaw.
All brass parts are sealed with Renaissance Wax, a micro-crystalline wax that resists moisture, clouding, corrosion, and fingerprints; the piece will still slowly patina over time, developing a darker, warmer tone. 1% of sales from this design goes to a charity or organisation chosen for the project.
