The journey of ‘Kamal’ began in Dal Lake in Kashmir. The wavy, ruffled, and wonderfully imperfect leaves of a lotus, or ‘kamal’ is encapsulated in this piece. Entirely handcrafted in Brass or Steel, using a rhythmic, labor-intensive process, every dent and hammer mark is intentionally made to look organic, mirroring the complex landscape of a living leaf. This side table captures the essence of the plant and transforms it into sculptural furniture.

About by.aman Visit Showroom →
'by aman' is the brainchild of Aman Mehta, an Indian designer based in Milan and Mumbai. Trained as an architect, he went on to complete a Masters in Milan, where he now lives and works. The practice sits at the intersection of two worlds: the deep craft heritage of India and the rigour of European design thinking. His work begins with a question, "what memory does an object?" Each piece in the studio's collection is rooted in a specific cultural moment, material tradition, or act of making that deserves to be remebered. Through the language of sculptural furniture, these elements & histories are given new form; objects that belong entirely in the present, yet carry the quiet memory of the past.
