Description

Inspired by the iconic works of Poul Kjærholm, particularly his PK24 chaise, El Cherlon by CarmWorks explores the intricate blend of heritage and imperfection. This unique piece seamlessly combines raw materials such as rattan and cedar to create an inviting aesthetic. The base of El Cherlon is crafted from cedar, featuring a charred finish that amplifies a sense of imperfection and impermanence. This deliberate design choice celebrates the beauty of natural flaws and the passage of time. The chaise appears to float in space, creating a sculptural and ethereal presence that beckons you to sit and experience its extraordinary comfort.
El Cherlon by CarmWorks is not just a piece of furniture; it’s a timeless work of art that invites you to celebrate the elegance of heritage and the allure of imperfection.

About CarmWorks Visit Showroom →

Camilo Andres Rodriguez Marquez is a Colombian born designer with a degree in Industrial Design from Colombia (FUAC) and Mexico (UNAM). He is fascinated by photography and cinematography, and intends to unify these two artistic expressions into his design in the form of narrative, projecting and communicating the interaction between the world and his objects. In his visits to several places in Mexico, such as San Juan Chamula in the sierra of Chiapas, Tzintzuntzan in Michoacán or Real de Catorce in San Luis Potosí, he was exposed to experiences that provided him with the awareness of how traditions, storytelling and rituals play an important role on how humans interpret their reality and our role in the universe. My hope is that we become attuned with what surrounds us in a sensoral and emotional state, by perceiving these pieces within a story of creation. This is why I want to demonstrate where it originated from and its relationship with the craftsman. This journey leaves a trace that can be seen in those imperfections and details that the artlessness of the handicraft possesses. We aim to provide a holistic view, where the mind can find a pleasurable and seamless contemplation in regards to the imperfection and the impermanence of nature. CarmWorks is a response to this exploration, on shaping people’s lives by suggesting a broader sensibility and providing a story to tell with these objects.
