Stella Arion is a London-based ceramic sculptor whose work sits between contemporary sculpture, collectible design and material research. Working primarily with black stoneware and industrial glazes, she creates hand-built sculptural objects that explore pressure, distortion and the body as a site of structural tension.

Her forms are not conceived as functional vessels, but as autonomous objects shaped by force, memory and material resistance. Each piece is built by hand, using coiling and experimental surface processes developed through extensive testing. Research is central to her practice and often takes place on site, through residencies, fieldwork and direct encounters with specific landscapes, materials and environments.

Arion’s practice has developed through two interconnected strands of research: specialist ceramic residencies, where material knowledge and technical processes are expanded and field-based residencies in remote natural environments, where landscape, geological pressure and bodily experience become sources for sculptural language.

Across her practice, black is not treated as a flat colour, but as a complex condition of depth, rupture and self-reflection. Arion holds an MA in Ceramics & Glass from the Royal College of Art, London and is a recipient of the Charlotte Fraser Award.
