Julie Mallet is a French designer and maker based in Marseille, where she develops a practice at the intersection of sculptural object design, contemporary craftsmanship, and digital fabrication. Formerly trained as an interior architect, she brings a sensitive understanding of space, volume, and light into the creation of sculptural lighting and functional objects. Her work stands apart through a desire to move away from the technological aesthetic often associated with 3D printing, favoring instead organic, textured, and timeless forms. Through a process that combines innovation with craftsmanship, she develops small-batch pieces while maintaining direct control over every stage of production, from the initial sketch to the final prototype. Material research plays a central role in her practice. Julie Mallet primarily works with bioplastic PLA derived from corn starch and enriched with recycled residues such as mussel and scallop shells, as well as coffee grounds. Her approach to materials and fabrication reflects a broader interest in creating a more local, sustainable, and emotionally driven design language. Inspired by her Mediterranean environment, personal memories, and everyday experiences, she creates sculptural objects designed to convey an atmosphere as much as a function.
