Founded by Ben Newman and Mary Numair, bnf studio is a Chicago-based furniture company specializing in expressive hardwood pieces that balance sculptural design with meticulous craftsmanship. An evolution of Ben Newman Furniture, a bespoke practice known for its detail-driven work, bnf studio brings together Newman’s 20-plus years as a fine woodworker with Numair’s creative direction and editorial sensibility.
The studio’s work begins with exceptional materials and a deep respect for process. Each design explores the interplay of shape, texture, and color, resulting in pieces that feel both architectural and emotionally resonant. Domestic hardwoods are shaped into distinctive forms and finished in ways that highlight grain, movement, and tone.
All furniture is designed and built in-house at their Chicago studio, allowing for complete control over quality, proportion, and detail. This approach ensures consistency across the entire creative process while allowing for a high degree of customization. Each piece is available in a range of hardwoods, custom colors, natural finishes, and COM upholstery.
mt. curve—a cornerstone collection—distills bnf studio’s ethos into a series of sculptural, form-forward pieces that consciously build beyond traditional design language. Conceived through Ben’s curiosity about a particular collection of shapes, the series explores the emotional potential of geometry through generous curves, plush upholstery, and exaggerated proportions. While rooted in traditional woodworking techniques, the collection moves away from linear restraint, embracing softness, volume, and contrast. At once architectural and inviting, these pieces speak to a new language of luxury, one rooted in craft, curiosity, and character.
