Horn Series

‘Horn Series’ is a project that reinterprets the form and structure of the speaker horn—a relic of industrial civilization now considered functionally obsolete. By uncovering new functional possibilities and reconstructing them into everyday furniture, this project breathes new life into forgotten objects. Through this exploration, ‘Horn Series’ aims to challenge fixed perceptions of function and image, encouraging audiences to transcend the limits of self-awareness and memory. It invites them to experience a shift in perspective, discovering the unexpected in the familiar.

The product is used as a modular shelf that can be assembled and expanded, and can be flexibly configured according to the nature of the space.

This series was produced in small quantities and is available only in limited quantities, maintaining its rarity.

Juyong Shim is a Seoul-based designer who explores the structural potential and sensory remnants of objects and components embedded in our everyday lives. Often produced within industrial contexts, these objects carry unique forms, materials, and memories—revealing latent possibilities for reinterpretation and renewed use. Shim collects and disassembles familiar items, reconstructing their remaining materiality and semiotic traces into sculptural compositions. Through this process, each object is transformed into a scene that drifts between function and non-function, structure and image, the domestic and the exhibited—opening subtle gaps in perception and sensation. His work goes beyond simple reuse or formal experimentation. It proposes a renewed way of thinking about the relationship between objects, space, memory, and the senses. Rather than focusing on how we use things, Shim’s designs invite us to feel, observe, and reflect—uncovering unfamiliar layers within the familiar and exploring alternative ways of seeing the world.
