Description

In Sweden, over a thousand tons of wool is burned or thrown out every year. At the same time, Sweden imports wool and wool goods for a value of four hundred million Swedish crowns. For the “Mylla Rug”, designer Lisa Darland uses the process of getting rid of the wool (burning and disintegration), the extensive fields of Skåne, and the fenced fields where the sheep spend their days from spring to autumn as an inspiration. “Mylla” is a Swedish word for mixing things into the soil.

The “Mylla” rug is a textural rug handmade out of 100 % Swedish wool from farms in Skåne and Halland, a fiber that is flameproof, dirt-repellent, biodegradable, and can regulate humidity. The rugs are created with minimal cuts of the fibers and utilizes the characteristics of the wool, knit and weave. This combination creates a spongy texture that also can be used as a seating surface.

The rugs are knitted and then woven on a custom made frame, handmade in the designer’s own studio.
