Description

White Magnolia is a ceramic wall triptych built around the contrast between delicate botanical forms and the physical presence of clay. Three individually made stoneware panels form a continuous composition of magnolia branches across softly layered grey surfaces.

The work is raku fired. At around 1000°C, the red-hot pieces are removed from the kiln and placed in sawdust, where smoke and rapid cooling transform the surface. Fine crackle lines darken with smoke, while the reduction process creates subtle shifts in colour and occasional metallic tones. These unpredictable marks make each surface impossible to fully control or repeat.

The three panels can be displayed together with varying distances between them. Each panel measures 9.5 × 18.5 × 3 cm and has a hanger on the reverse. The triptych measures approximately 29 × 18.5 × 3 cm as shown, while the overall width can be adjusted through the spacing between the panels.
