Description

The “Turret Candleholder” plays with contrasts: between the masculine character of the raw, cast brass and the form’s feminine curves, and between the hard, cold brass and the warm, textured marble. The hard and cold materials also provide contrast to the soft and warm nature of the flickering candlelight. The “Turret Candleholder” combines two functions, that of a candle holder as well as an organizer.

Key Features:
– Hand carved by local artisans, no computer generated technologies are involved in production
– Marble is acquired from construction sites’ surplus that was intended to be discarded
– Food safe; made of natural marble with no additives
– Every piece is unique, due to the handmade qualities and the differing marble grain per piece

Care instructions:
– Best to wipe clean with a damp cloth, and keep washing with detergents to a minimum as this reduces the sheen
– Avoid submerging or the use of abrasive sponges and cleaners.
– Avoid direct contact with acids as that will etch the marble and cause it to dull upon contact

About the designer

in doi doi

In doi design house is a creative product design studio based in Amman, Jordan. The concept was born from our passion for creativity and originality. We are a husband and wife team who work side by side, and through a close collaboration with talented and passionate craftsmen we bring to life our out-of-the-box ideas.

Throughout our careers, we have learnt to understand the necessity of good design in all aspects of life. We have both been working with prestigious architects for over ten years, thus learning to put to use our multidisciplinary artistic skills. Our goal is to employ this knowledge and experience to design and produce pieces of art that are functional, innovative, and visually captivating. The result comes from joining traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge fabrication processes.

To us, and to all those who appreciate fine arts, design is the simplicity of form and function at the same time. Research, experimentation, collaboration and playfulness are essential components of our practice and our design process. From the birth of the idea, as abstract as it may be, to the creation of a beautiful, functional, product. We believe good design and fine craftsmanship go hand in hand.

Presenting “PROXIMITY”, a collection created in collaboration with Southern Sweden Design Days showcasing a selection of new work from ten designers and studios. As a whole, the collection contemplates the notion of proximity, interconnection, and belonging. Whether through contemporary references to traditional crafts techniques; the use of locally sourced materials such as wool, lichen, steel, and wood; or playful visualisations of the notion itself, the selected pieces illustrate the importance of closeness, interconnection, and kinship in uncertain times. Featuring pieces by Andrea Santivanez, Andréason & Leibel, Ebba Lindgren, Förstberg Ling, Jóna Berglind Stefánsdóttir, Lab La Bla, Lisa Darland, Louise Hederström, Moa Lönn, and Studio M. Organised by Form/Design Center in Malmö, Sweden, Southern Sweden Design Days is an annual event currently in its second edition, which highlights sustainability, collaboration, development, and innovation in design. This year’s theme, as described by the event organisers, “[reflects] on the notion of being close – the connection between people, cities, countries, species, professions, etc”. The physical exhibition of “PROXIMITY” will take place at Lokstallarna, Södra Bulltoftavägen 51, 212 22 Malmö from 19 - 22 May 2022.
