How is this defined? A singular and unparalleled creation, existing in only one instance with no intention of replication. It may also refer to an original prototype. Stacked pieces are built automatically by using or creating parts, scraps, found objects. Each upcycled piece is created according to this principle: all parts are assembled unassembled. A photo session is set up, with a background and two lights. The session starts. At a rapid pace, piles are built, then an image is made. Every 3 minutes, a new piece must be made. The session lasts 40 minutes. At the end of the session, photos are kept. A few days later, I look at the photos then I keep my favorites and finally put them together. This method is another attempt to find new ways to design by letting subconscious actions do the work, leaving aside ego, doubt and calculation. The part name reflects this moment and is labeled Month-Year-Order in the session.

Assembled pieces with traditional handcut joinery. Carved by hand, hand turned, hand painted and lacquered.

About Benjamin Foucaud Visit Showroom →

After years as creative Director & designer for major brands, Benjamin found peace in his own studio as a woodworker and cabinet maker. Primary using hand tools and ancient techniques, he focuses on his trade as high end builder, mastering a large set of skills, as well as defining his "non industrial designer" role, interrogating processes, technics, and valuation of wood towards our contemporary problematics and desires. This is why aside from furniture, he produces and build himself objects and sculptures, mainly unique pieces available trough Adorno. Inspired by the form of the wood pieces he finds in the workshop, cultural testimony and interrogation about what our civilization consider as being human. He delivers unique and sculptural pieces where wood becomes rich or humble, rough or sophisticated, simple or surprising.
