Description

This object is made with Ella Einhell;s self developed BONEGLASS. A zero waste glass made from combining glass grinding sludge and discarded animal bones. The animal bones are sourced from small bio farmers with ethical husbandry to support them in the fight against the mass slaughter industry. To create the objects, waste ressources get passed on from one local expert to another, until the material is ready to be mouthblown in Germany and Sweden. Each object is shaped by blowing the boneglass into a mold made from animal bones, such as pigs shoulder blades or the jaws of wild bores. This way, the vases are formed and unwanted bones are given a new life. Like every animal and bone, each object is unique and can not be repeated. Not only do the vases vary in size and shape but in colour too; the particular species of animal and its life experiences are all conveyed through colour. Shades range from white, to brown, to blue and green. Enhell’s work aims to support local craftmenship and takle problems such as resource waste and industrial waste.

About Studio Ella EInhell Visit Showroom →

My practice at the intersection of material research and product design revolves around the use of wasted resources – and their transformation into innovative raw materials. Since 2020, I focus on working with waste from the meat industry: animal bones. By investigating which raw materials it can replace, I develop bone-based, locally produced materials. Using both industrial processes and traditional crafts, I turn them into ecological, resource-saving objects or products. I am available for commissions and collaborations with manufacturers, brands and designers.
