Resonant Earth: Seamless Voronoi Wall Relief
This Piece is a modular wall relief composed of twelve hand-formed individual panels (3 × 4) that come together to form a continuous, seamless surface. Its topography is derived from Voronoi geometry—that cellular pattern found repeatedly in nature. Here, these cells dissolve into a continuous field of domes and hollows, reminiscent of sound made visible within matter.
The work begins as a 3D model and is transformed through mold-making into its final, deliberately archaic material: a composite of natural raw clay and plant fibers. The warm earth tones are the color of the raw earth itself. This convergence of parametric design and one of humanity’s oldest building materials forms the core of the piece.
Functional Well-being – True to the principles of sustainable and holistic design, this wall covering serves a purpose that aims to go beyond the visual. The natural composition of raw unfired clay and natural fibers acts as a passive climate regulator and positively influences indoor humidity. At the same time, the deep, sound-scattering properties of the Voronoi relief pattern help dampen harsh echoes, noticeably improving room acoustics and creating a healthier, calmer atmosphere.
Fully modular, the composition can be scaled or rearranged to adapt to a specific wall or architectural situation.
