The Kawa Series is a testament to Luft Tanaka’s uniquely refined and meticulously developed technique, blending traditional craftsmanship with experimental processes. Each piece begins as a simple sketch, which is then transformed into a custom leather mold—a process requiring precision, patience, and artistry.
Once the mold is cut, sewn, and prepared, liquid porcelain is carefully poured inside, allowing it to gradually form a delicate yet durable layer along the leather’s surface. As the porcelain sets, the mold is carefully cut open at the seams and gently peeled away, revealing an object that is both sculptural and functional. The final form is then fired in a kiln, preserving its organic, textured quality while achieving a refined ceramic structure.
