“Jupiter” is an intergalactic statement coasterpiece made of solid aluminum. It began as a bespoke project for a client who wanted a sculptural set of coasters that spike visual interest.

Made of eight different parts, each manually turned on the mechanical lathe by a master artisan in Jordan.

About the designer

Andre Mcheileh

To be able to see the world with an open mind and a soft heart, and feel the essence of materials through the eyes of a craftsman. Andre Mcheileh aims straight at the heart with his purist approach to design. In using the sensorial richness and subjective meaning of materials, highlighting the essential and extracting the structural minimum of every object, he opens an intimate conversation with nature by letting the soul of materials speak for themselves. Designer, artistic director, photographer, and first-class sensualist, Andre channels his multi-faceted personality into his creations that often take a striking and elegant form. Motivated to create and orchestrate beauty, he founded his design studio in 2019 in Amman. By placing the local know-how at the heart of his creative process, he strives to design a shorter supply chain and simpler methods of production, thus elevating the quality and elegance of products. Andre gathers inspiration from nature, encounters, cinema, fashion and architecture, and hopes to make this world a better place one aesthetic experience at a time.

Presenting “PROXIMITY”, a collection created in collaboration with Southern Sweden Design Days showcasing a selection of new work from ten designers and studios. As a whole, the collection contemplates the notion of proximity, interconnection, and belonging. Whether through contemporary references to traditional crafts techniques; the use of locally sourced materials such as wool, lichen, steel, and wood; or playful visualisations of the notion itself, the selected pieces illustrate the importance of closeness, interconnection, and kinship in uncertain times. Featuring pieces by Andrea Santivanez, Andréason & Leibel, Ebba Lindgren, Förstberg Ling, Jóna Berglind Stefánsdóttir, Lab La Bla, Lisa Darland, Louise Hederström, Moa Lönn, and Studio M. Organised by Form/Design Center in Malmö, Sweden, Southern Sweden Design Days is an annual event currently in its second edition, which highlights sustainability, collaboration, development, and innovation in design. This year’s theme, as described by the event organisers, “[reflects] on the notion of being close – the connection between people, cities, countries, species, professions, etc”. The physical exhibition of “PROXIMITY” will take place at Lokstallarna, Södra Bulltoftavägen 51, 212 22 Malmö from 19 - 22 May 2022.
