Description

“I Gusci” is a collection of thin and organic bowls designed for everyday life, inspired by an imaginary fossil nature where each element is part of an oneiric, but domestic landscape. Each piece is handmade using a slab building technique and the edges are delicately engraved with a small cutter.

After the first fire (980 degrees), each piece’s edge is painted by hand with real gold. It is thanks to the second fire that they develop their own character; at 1280 degrees, by the reducing of volume, the porcelain forms move through the space. The bisque finish outside and the crystalline glaze inside give a contemporary flavour to this collection, so elegant thanks to the golden edge.

In my work, I always indulge the anarchist spirit of porcelain allowing it to deform plastically, so as to lose the initial geometry and obtain unique forms.

About BIANCODICHINA Visit Showroom →

BIANCODICHINA is a contemporary ceramic studio founded by Alice Reina in 2015. Her work is inspired by the plastic properties of raw porcelain and is driven by the curiosity to manipulate this material to its limits, reaching unexpected results. She creates objects whose shapes, transparencies, or surface finishes make us doubt their consistency or, even, the materials they are made of. Her process of making is based on the use of thin sheets of porcelain or liquid porcelain, allowing her to create organic objects and textures which are always different. During the working process, Alice accepts - or rather, enhances - the anarchic nature of the material, obtaining unpredictable outcomes. Her objects are characterised by fine forms that grow on the silky surface of the bisque porcelain. The colour, when present, is obtained by natural pigments directly added to the raw porcelain, which is later mixed and shaped into the final pieces. This is a long process that allows the designer to make unique and precious objects.
