Description

The Grey, or Dead, Dunes represent Europe’s largest moving dunes, located on the Lithuanian side of the Curonian Spit. These vast sandy formations, punctuated by occasional patches of vegetation, add subtle greenery to an otherwise stark landscape.
This oval-shaped rug by Viktorija Kuliavaitė is carefully designed to evoke the natural beauty of the Dead Dunes, bringing the essence of this unique landscape into your home. Expertly crafted, the tufted design provides both exceptional durability and a richly textured surface. Inspired by the striking dunes of the Curonian Spit, the rug features intricate detailing with organic shapes and patterns, skillfully capturing the essence of the Lithuanian landscape. Its innovative design allows it to be separated into five individual pieces, offering a playful 3D effect that integrates effortlessly into any interior.
The rug’s deep, earthy tones, ranging from rich greens to various shades of sand, create a captivating main point that adds vibrancy while preserving a sense of refined elegance. Ideal for those seeking to introduce both creativity and sophistication into their living space, this rug exudes timeless appeal. About Viktorija Kuliavaitė Visit Showroom →

Viktorija Kuliavaitė was born in a small town in Ukmergė, Lithuania, surrounded by nature, art, and textiles. Introduced to sewing by her mother, sparking a lifelong passion for textiles. This early influence, combined with a love for exploring landscapes, now serves as the foundation for her creative work. Viktorija is an innovative textile designer who draws inspiration from nature and biomimicry. Her designs are tactile, functional, and versatile, blending fashion, furniture, and interior design. She believes textiles should balance beauty with utility, and this philosophy drives her use of eco-friendly materials, often incorporating recycled or natural fibers into her creations. With a Bachelor's degree in Experimental Fashion Design and a Master's in Textile Art and Design, Viktorija improved her skills in pushing boundaries, experimenting with form, and refining sustainable practices. Her multidisciplinary approach allows her to work across diverse fields, from fashion to furniture, always focusing on functionality and tactile design. Nature plays a central role in her work, influencing not only her choice of materials but also her designs, which mimic organic forms and patterns. In recent years, she has focused on creating textured surfaces for rugs and poufs, inspired by her exploration of landscapes. These textured creations are designed to stimulate sensory and motoric responses, inviting people to experience the world indoors through touch. At the heart of her work is a commitment to biomimicry, sustainability, and creating textiles that connect people with nature. She is an accomplished creator and maker in both the local and international art and design scenes. In 2022, she became the first non-Estonian participant to win the Estonian Fashion Festival with her fashion collection, "ScandSand." Her success continued into 2023 when she was honored with the Young Designers Award for her Master's research thesis in Design Research. In Lithuania, she has showcased her work at several notable exhibitions, including the Artifex Gallery (2022, Vilnius), a personal exhibition at the Užupis Art Incubator (2024), and the "Furniture and Design Solutions 2023" event at the Litexpo Exhibition Center (Vilnius). Additionally, she participated in the VDA Graduation Show (2023, Vilnius). Her recent international collaborative exhibition includes the FITE Territoires Textiles Prize 2024, held at La Canopée Michelin headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
