Description

The idea of “ESFERICO” was to explore the limits of glass deformation with experimentation during the craft process of glassblowing. The idea was to intervene on the round shape, resulting of the artisan blowing, making provocations to the traditional process of making serial pieces. The deformation is the result of the interference of three crystal balls in different sizes used as a mould. However, the external shape of the ball is organic and in the repetition, each piece acquires a unique character shaped by the glassblower. The base of crystal balls is used to suspend the glass, allowing stability to the piece, and retains the resulting shape of the glassblowing artisian.

Crystals are often used in Brazil as a gift. The idea is to value this beautiful and natural material by giving a new function. The idea was to intervene in the blowing gesture with an external mold and through experimentation reaching a plastic result of transparency and color valuing the shape and function. The result are unique pieces where weight, lightness and transparency act out together. The satin finish is a new finish to the Bola collection giving a soft touch to the piece.

The raw material used is glass, doesn’t contain lead in its composition, its recyclable and uses an electric oven, without burning of CO2.

Carol Gay was born in Sao Paulo in 1976. She graduated in the year of 2000 at Mackenzie University in Architecture and Urbanism program. from 1999 to 2000 she took part in the “ Construction of the Object” workshop at MUBE “The Brazilian Museum of Sculpture”, with the designers Fernando and Humberto Campana  this experience was the genesis of her current work.She has her works published on several design books including the Bloom Brasil Saboroso and Bloom Brasil Fé both from the trendsetter Lidewij Edelkoort.A hands-on experience, performing constant artisanal skills, and the permanent search for new materials have become essential features of my design.
