Description

In ancient Greece, a pelike was a vessel used to hold water or wine, often decorated with motifs depicting myths, stories, and everyday scenes—images that brought narratives to life across its surface.
Today, digital tools allow us to create a different kind of ornamentation, one that reflects the logic of the digital environment we inhabit and the processes through which objects are made. Algorithms and scripts become a language, shaping form through code.
The resulting surfaces unfold with intricate precision, where large amounts of data are translated into complex patterns. Like contemporary narratives, they emerge layer by layer – embedded within the object, waiting to be read.
These vases are crafted from deep black, unglazed stoneware, allowing the patterns to be perceived with greater clarity and depth. The matte exterior enhances the contrast and legibility of the ornamentation, emphasizing its tactile and visual complexity. Glazed on the interior, each vessel is fully watertight and functional, capable of holding water and supporting fresh flowers.
The collection is available in three sizes – S, M, and XL – with multiple variations for each size. Upon request, custom versions can be developed, allowing for variations in form, pattern, and ceramic color.

About Layered Ceramics Studio Visit Showroom →

Layered Ceramics Studio is a 3D-printed ceramic studio based in Berlin, driven by a passion for translating through digital fabrication the logical patterns observed in Nature. The studio creates sculptures that feel haptic and alive: otherworldly objects born from algorithms, that inhabit physical space. The approach pushes constantly the limits of contemporary 3D printing while honouring traditions in ceramic craft, producing designs that embody innovation and sustainability. At the core of the practice lies the exploration of tension between digital and physical: technology's precision against organic warmth. Research centers on morphology and material behaviour, seeking alternative paths in ceramic design. Computational methods blend with traditional techniques to create a unique design language. The goal is to craft sculptures that deliver a "Back to Earth" gesture in our virtual age—works positioned close to human existence, countering the digital while connecting it to living reality. Touching one of these pieces means touching the moment the algorithm became alive.
