Description

This handbuilt ceramic object was inspired by the shape of a traditional Japanese knot bag – a soft, fabric pouch where one handle loops through the other to close. Reinterpreted in clay, the piece preserves the gentle folds and casual elegance of the textile form, now frozen in stoneware.
The white surface is decorated with a hand-painted blue floral pattern, reminiscent of printed textiles. While it’s primarily a sculptural object, the piece can also function as a vase – ideally for a single flower or a delicate branch – something minimal that complements its quiet presence.
Perfect as a standalone object, this work brings a sense of calm, intimacy, and refined craftsmanship into any space.

A handbuilt stoneware piece finished with glazes. Watertight and signed on the base. Measures approx. 23 × 16 × 22 cm. Can be used as a sculptural vase for a single flower or branch.

About Elena Yakimushkina Visit Showroom →

Born on the Baltic Coast, I've always drawn inspiration for my artwork from the serene beauty of northern nature. Ceramics, for me, is not just a craft; it's a lifelong passion and a medium for my creative expression. I am endlessly fascinated by the diverse forms, materials, and techniques that ceramics offer. One of the greatest joys of working with clay is the opportunity to experiment with firing techniques. I have a particular fondness for raku firing and wood firing, drawn to the hands-on nature of these methods and the element of serendipity they bring to the creative process. In each ceramic piece I create, I infuse a part of myself, establishing a profound connection between artist and art. Thank you for joining me on this artistic journey.
