Description

These joyous outstretched arms are a subtle, abstract hint at an appreciation of the peacock’s majestic reveal — so the piece had to be named for a fellow appreciator, the peahen. The design by DUSKSHAPED also manifests a theme that drives the studio’s work, the dance between order and chaos.

Peahen can be used as a bookend or a mini shelf. Sold individually, one bookend at a time.

Peahen is part of the collection “Bad Graces,” conceived and designed during a period when the designer lost the ability to walk. A lot of reading, a lot of dreaming, and a lot of musing on what it means to trust one’s body for daily use filled these months.

Sustainability is the organizing principle, and the intention is for their work to be circular: cherished for hundreds of years, but circular nonetheless given a geologic time scale, the scale that matters. That is why DUSKSHAPED’s practice is centered on metals, the only common building materials that are systematically recycled and infinitely recyclable. Post-life recycling is highly encouraged via a return to any local metal yard.

Care: Wipe clean with a water-dampened cloth.

About DUSKSHAPED Visit Showroom →

Founded in Brooklyn in 2019, DUSKSHAPED makes experimental, witty design objects in the most sustainable common building material: metal. In these works, a longstanding obsession with linework and negative fields and a background in the logic-based disciplines of philosophy and music collide in a three-dimensional practice. DUSKSHAPED's design ethos flows from a preoccupation with rigid order -- and the moments when chaos pierces that order. In those moments lies the sublime. DUSKSHAPED is organized around environmental parsimony. This begins with steel and aluminum, the only common materials that are infinitely recyclable. Our production is 100% in the U.S., and our packaging is plastic free, fully recycled, and fully recyclable. DUSKSHAPED is online at dusk.cool and @duskshaped.
