Description

Designed with modern and simple geometry, the Stoa chair emerged as a result of blending natural materials with minimal lines. Stoa chair takes its name from the Stoic philosophy whose main purpose in life is happiness. The design of the chair was conceived as the symbolic approach of this philosophy.

In stoic philosophy, it is said that to reach happiness, it is necessary to live in harmony with nature. The main thing is to lead a virtuous life by reaching inner peace with self-sufficiency and self-control in a simple lifestyle. This movement, which started with Zeno, who gave lessons by gathering his students on the columned road called “Stoa” in the ancient period, was blended with the teachings of Socrates and influenced a wide audience from slaves to emperors in the Roman period.

With natural materials and simple lines, this unique product refers to stoa architecture with its foot form and accommodates the essential and simple elements of a natural formation of a chair.

Studio Mohs is a creative studio based in Istanbul for searching and imagining various design experiences in a living environment. The works involve furniture and products combining old material with contemporary style and inspired by basic shapes that create clean aesthetics. We aim to transform the ancient material marble into plain and geometric forms by meeting modern lines and constitute a minimal aesthetic. Compose a language that will break the weight and classical perception of marble that formed millions of years ago with contemporary concept approaches, experimental representations, and 20th -century movements. We continue to create unique forms with strong details by including wood and metal materials. The meaning of Mohs is the hardness and resistance scale of minerals. Related to that, the beginning of a journey starts with the intimacy with marble and stone. The origins of Studio Mohs is coming from a long time experience of marble quarries. Years of working with this material has evolved into furniture, interior, and product design. The journey from nature to our living spaces has begun with the sculptural and completely marble coffee table designs produced in the marble factory in Alanya.
