Matter of Course Berlin Design Collective
Matter of Course is a Berlin-based collective of eleven independent female designers whose practices span furniture, lighting, and decor. Founded in 2021, the collective emerged from a shared commitment to collaboration, material integrity, and mutual support. Together, they reimagine what it means to work as independent designers within a collective framework, creating a dynamic platform where experimentation and shared authorship drive each project forward.
The collective includes Heike Buchfelder, STUDIO BERG, Studio Milena Kling, LYK CARPET, ELOA – Unique Lights, SCHOEMIG PORZELLAN, and Elisa Strozyk, among others. Each brings a distinct approach—ranging from sculptural glass and handwoven textiles to porcelain, carpet design, and ambient lighting—yet their practices intersect through craftsmanship and curiosity. Their work embodies a balance between individual voice and collective rhythm, forming a dialogue between material exploration and emotional resonance.
This collection showcases their combined output: thoughtful, tactile pieces that feel both grounded and exploratory. Whether through light, texture, or form, each object reflects the group’s shared belief that collaboration can create a more connected and sustainable design culture. Matter of Course stands as an example of how community and creativity, when combined, shape a new way forward for contemporary design.
