The Théros collection: a Mediterranean summer in light
Théros, the Greek word for summer, draws on Barakos’ childhood memories of yearly visits to Greece, his paternal homeland. Through each lamp, he evokes the sensations he associates with those summers, from the smell of dry grass to the glare of the midday sun. Consequently, the lamps carry a strong sense of place, rooted in Greek design and Mediterranean style.
The humanoid silhouette of each lamp suggests a figure standing in the sunlight, with a whimsical straw hat resting on its head. The hat can be tilted in different directions, letting the user shape how light falls from the glass sphere beneath it. As a result, each lamp is as much a character as an object.
Materials and craft
The Mediterranean character of Théros is reinforced by its materials. The base is carved from white Volakas marble quarried in Drama, Greece, known for its characteristic gray veining, so each lamp is unique. The straw hat is handmade in Athens, and the head is an opaque glass sphere that diffuses a soft, sun-like glow.
