The KIDAKE Bench is a sculptural solid wood bench crafted from French oak, combining architectural simplicity, structural precision, and traditional craftsmanship. Its compact silhouette is defined by thick wooden planes and softly rounded edges that highlight the warmth, grain, and tactile character of the oak.
The seat is composed of two separate solid oak planes, creating a subtle central opening through which light passes. This deliberate separation introduces visual lightness and changing shadows beneath the bench, giving the otherwise robust structure a dynamic quality that evolves throughout the day.
A distinctive construction detail lies within the connection between the legs and seat. A custom double-tenon joinery system provides exceptional structural strength while referencing traditional cabinetmaking techniques. The stepped double-tenon geometry creates an unusually large gluing surface, reinforcing the structure and demonstrating a considered approach to durability and longevity.
Although much of this joinery remains concealed within the finished piece, its construction reflects the same philosophy of material honesty and precision found throughout the design. Every proportion and transition is carefully resolved to balance robustness with the tactile quality of handcrafted furniture.
Combining solid French oak, traditional joinery, sculptural form, and architectural proportions, the KIDAKE Bench is both a functional seating piece and a collectible design object. Its timeless character allows it to integrate naturally into intimate interiors or more monumental spaces while remaining rooted in craftsmanship and material authenticity.
