The IKRAM Stool is a sculptural solid wood piece that embraces imperfection, movement, and natural transformation. Crafted from green French oak, the stool is intentionally made with slightly wet timber, allowing the material to continue evolving after construction and making every piece unique.
As the oak gradually dries, natural tensions within the grain create subtle movements, surface changes, and organic cracks. Rather than preventing these transformations, IKRAM incorporates them into the design, allowing time, climate, and the natural behaviour of the wood to become part of the making process.
Its architectural silhouette is composed of monolithic planes and intersecting volumes. Wide trapezoidal legs provide a grounded and stable base, while the asymmetrical seat introduces visual tension through a sharp diagonal cut. This distinctive gesture appears to split the upper volume, revealing the internal character and energy of the timber.
The visible grain, dark knots, and evolving fissures give the stool a primitive and tactile quality, closer to a carved fragment of wood than a conventional piece of furniture. Its geometric structure contrasts with the unpredictable nature of the material, creating a dynamic object that appears to remain in motion.
Combining green French oak, sculptural furniture design, natural wood transformation, and material experimentation, the IKRAM Stool is both a functional seat and a collectible design object. A piece where craftsmanship works in collaboration with nature, leaving time, gravity, humidity, and material memory visible in the finished form.
