Description

The journey of ‘Kamal’ began in Dal Lake in Kashmir. The wavy, ruffled, and wonderfully imperfect leaves of a lotus, or ‘kamal’ is encapsulated in this piece. ​ Entirely handcrafted in Brass or Steel, using a rhythmic, labor-intensive process, every dent and hammer mark is intentionally made to look organic, mirroring the complex landscape of a living leaf. This side table captures the essence of the plant and transforms it into sculptural furniture.

'by aman' is the brainchild of Aman Mehta, an Indian designer based in Milan and Mumbai. Trained as an architect, he went on to complete a Masters in Milan, where he now lives and works. The practice sits at the intersection of two worlds: the deep craft heritage of India and the rigour of European design thinking.His work begins with a question, "what memory does an object?" Each piece in the studio's collection is rooted in a specific cultural moment, material tradition, or act of making that deserves to be remebered. Through the language of sculptural furniture, these elements & histories are given new form; objects that belong entirely in the present, yet carry the quiet memory of the past.
