This lamp draws on the strength and technical sophistication of the Purépecha people, who for centuries resisted the expansion of the Mexica (Aztec) Empire, and whose metallurgical tradition endures in the copper workshops of Michoacán.
Its shape evokes the barbed copper maces wielded by Purépecha warriors, known as “morning stars”, which is coincidentally also another name for the planet Venus when it appears at dawn.
Each Venus lamp is handcrafted in hammered copper by master artisan Daniel Gómez of Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán.
