The MAYA Shelving is a sculptural solid oak shelving system conceived as a living architectural structure. Crafted from green oak heartwood, the piece embraces the natural movement and transformation of timber, allowing time and material behaviour to become part of its identity.
Built using freshly cut wood with natural internal humidity, MAYA continues to evolve after construction. As the oak gradually dries, fissures emerge, existing cracks deepen, surfaces develop warmer toasted tones, and the grain reveals new variations. Rather than concealing these natural changes, the design celebrates them, making each piece unique and continuously evolving.
Its bold silhouette is inspired by primitive architectural forms, combining stacked horizontal shelves with substantial vertical supports. The open composition creates a strong sense of balance and gravity while allowing light to pass through, generating changing shadows throughout the day. Visible knots, splits, and irregular grain patterns reinforce the raw, organic character of the oak.
Each shelf preserves the expressive qualities of the timber, creating the impression of monumental wooden volumes shaped by both craftsmanship and natural forces. This combination of sculptural form, solid wood construction, and evolving material character places MAYA between functional furniture and architectural object.
A distinctive collectible shelving system rooted in craftsmanship and material honesty, MAYA is designed not as a static object but as a long-term dialogue between wood, nature, and its surroundings — a piece that continues to age, transform, and develop character over time.
