Elena Yakimushkina’s smaller companion to Sculptural Vase “On the Rocks” #1 shares the same bold aesthetic and raw, textured character. Crafted using the traditional kurinuki technique, the vase was carved from a single block of clay, resulting in angular, dynamic forms that invite exploration from every angle.
Like its larger counterpart, this vase was wood-fired, creating an organic, unpredictable surface. The natural ash and shino glazes interact with the flame, leaving distinct marks highlighting its sculptural quality. Compact yet striking, this vase is a powerful statement piece or pairs beautifully with its sibling to form a harmonious duo.
The vase was hand-built and decorated using a combination of shino and natural ash glazes. It was finished through wood firing at a temperature of 1300°C, giving it a unique texture and coloration.
