Scroll is a wall light that fuses fine art and functional design. As the porcelain sheets are fired, they show signs of natural imperfections, which reveal their unique character. Instead of discarding flawed pieces which break during the heat of firing, the kintsugi gold leaf repair technique is employed. This transformative process not only breathes new life into what was once considered waste, but it also imbues the ceramic with a newfound beauty, characterised by its golden scars. Each lit surface reveals unique one-of-a-kind idiosyncrasies, while challenging the paradigms of wasteful use and replace mindset. The edges are reminiscent of parchment, with the fine detail of porcelain luminosity. The distinctive iridescent colouring creates a marbled chromatic panorama akin to landscape topography. Architectural clay sheets are formed by pouring porcelain slip on a plaster slab and then carefully dried before being fired twice in the kiln. The luminous properties of the light is heightened by adding iridescent colours to the porcelain, which results in exquisitely luminous and ethereal translucency when internally lit. Detailed instructions for mounting are provided. *This piece is handmade and slight variations in shape, colour and size can occur. This is the beauty of handmade, each item is truly unique.
