Description

The Antigua and Roma Totem Sculptures emerge from an exploratory exercise aimed at capturing a glimpse of Mexico’s daily life, shapes, and colors. These pieces stand out for their organically shaped bases, inspired by traditional Mexican solid candies such as Tornillo and Faros. Drawing from the rich variety of textures and colors found in these sweets, the sculptures are crafted using a carefully selected combination of marble and onyx. Natural stones like marble and onyx feature unique variations in color, veining, and patterns—these are not imperfections but inherent characteristics of the material. Over time, these stones may also undergo subtle color changes due to exposure to sunlight.

Please note that due to the handmade nature of these pieces and the natural variations in marble, final dimensions may have a margin of error of up to +/- 5%. We take great care to minimize variations and ensure that each piece meets our quality standards, but we kindly ask you to keep this in mind when placing your order.

About Studio Ayres Visit Showroom →

Ayres' designs are an authentic blend of contemporary approaches and primitive silhouettes, exploring unique forms and materials, aiming to create sculptural designs and distinctive objects. The natural character of the chosen materials is crucial in creating pieces with a robust identity. Ayres strives to find a balance, playing with textures and patterns in stones and marbles to embody these rough materials with a touch of femininity. This approach has become a signature mark of Ayres designs. It is more than just a play on materiality and forms, historical references and constant experimentation enable the Studio to create truly unique and extravagant pieces. Karim Molina, (Caracas), creative leader and director, founded Ayres in Mexico City. Her designs are a testimony to her fascination with the beauty found in simplicity and her curiosity for art and design, with a background in textile design, she aims to create objects that reflect textile patterns and forms.
