Description

“M-LAMP*S ” is the smaller version of the larger “M-LAMP*L” and is part of the “Shades of Stainless Steel” series. A study on metal pipes, which allows the viewer to play with his perception. Each lamp is handmade and polished at Studio Kuhlmann based in Cologne, Germany.

“Shades of Stainless steel” is a study of sculptures which plays with the perception of the viewer* and allows us to associate different characters. The “light bulb” is a metaphor for the “idea”, which makes a light come on. In the series, different individual forms are combined again and again to form new ones and mime an evolution from one object to the next. All sculptures are created through minimalist sketches and are made of steel tubes. The focus is strongly on the naturally occurring deformation and curvature of the individual tubes that occur during free welding, thus criticizing the process of industrial production. Each sculpture becomes a unique piece through this process, because even when the form returns, a natural deformation remains.

Hannah Kuhlmann graduated in 2015 from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Maastricht, the Netherlands and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Design. In 2017, she founded her own Studio Kuhlmann that offers a collection of unique and limited-edition design objects.

The lamp is equipped with an E14 socket and an LED source. Finishes: brushed stainless steel.

New Solid is a vision to feel and live with art. It is the first show of Casa Nueva, a livable gallery space and apartment hotel initiated by designers River Valadez and Sebastián Arroyo Hoebens, built on the idea that art can be inhabited. We invite visitors to participate in the dialogue among transdisciplinary works from the contemporary art and design scene. It concerns functional art designed and conceived by artists from two magnificent cities, Mexico City and New York, in a correlation founded in geometry, technology, and crafts. The artworks, bliss for the contemplative eye and a joy to use, will invite the beholder to examine the floating and multidimensional character of concepts such as mass, volume, or weight. The location, equipped as a functional living space, can be found in the historical center of Mexico City. The event will be part of the Design Week Mexico festivities in partnership with Adorno, acting as the international design and logistics platform, as well as Ángulo Cero, an Art Gallery with astonishing designs located in Mexico City, and with the support of Yunuen Sariego, promoter and curator of contemporary art based in Mexico City.
