Here is our old friend the spring rider, you know the little horsey you use to go crazy on in the playground. It’s the spring rider all grown up, with gained experience, wisdom and springs. It has made its way back to us, personified into a mature, sexy object that makes more sense to us today. It wants to be our friend again.
Playgrounds can age too is an ongoing exploration on redefining play, relating it to how we as adults play today and how that might be through sex and dancing. I want to create an object that encapsulates this new entity of play as the physical representations of playgrounds have stayed these plastic structures, frozen in time that are no longer approachable to us adults.
The base is made out of individually hammered steel pieces all welded together to make a solid foundation. I chose to contrast this aggressiveness of the metal with a soft, alluring red velvet textile to fit better to my narrative of sexy playgrounds. The four legs are standing on wobbly springs, introducing a bouncy rhythm when you sit on top.
This piece is a one of a kind piece and there are currently no variations of it.
This couch is heavy but easy to assemble, just like a see saw though, you have to make sure the weight is counterbalanced when sitting on it.
