Description

The Terra Table draws its essence from the terra roxa landscapes of Minas Gerais, where the rich, iron-infused clay paints the earth in deep, warm hues. This distinct color and texture echo the table’s design, inspired by ancient native Brazilian sculptures. For Nayara, these forms aren’t just artistic; they carry personal memories—of seeing the vibrant red soil on drives through the countryside and the traditional water filters that brought the earth into everyday life.

Designed with modularity in mind, the hand-shaped bases are fully rearrangeable, allowing for different compositions that shift the table’s presence in a space. Paired with a steel top, the piece is not about contrast alone—it’s about connection. The imperfections in the top weren’t just accepted; they were necessary, allowing the industrial element to find its place alongside the organic, tactile bases. Together, they create a seamless dialogue, where each element enhances the other, balancing rugged textures with fluid lines.

Produced in limited editions, each table embraces subtle variations that make it unique. The Terra Table embodies aeny studio’s philosophy: to see beauty in the unrefined, to find strength in imperfections, and to honor the connections between different forms, materials, and stories.

Each piece is individually hand-sculpted, ensuring that no two are ever identical, reinforcing its status as a true limited-series work.

About aeny studio Visit Showroom →

Nayara Nascimento is a Brazilian-born, Canada-based artist and founder of aeny studio. She creates sculptural furniture and lighting using materials like paper pulp, gypsum from drywall remnants, and construction fragments—materials often overlooked, but central to her process. Each piece is built by hand, layer by layer, through a physical, responsive approach shaped by feeling and form. Some works begin with a sketch. Others begin without a clear plan. But none follow a fixed path. They shift as they’re made, becoming a way to hold something: an emotion, a rupture, a moment in time, made tangible through material. Her background in architecture and interior design gave her a foundation in spatial structure, while her studies in neuroscience deepened her understanding of perception and the complexity of human experience. Her practice is further shaped by her neurodivergence and Indigenous Brazilian heritage, which inform how she listens—to material, memory, and the unspoken aspects of form. Nascimento’s work doesn’t follow a fixed method—it unfolds through process, interruption, and a sensitivity to what emerges along the way. Through aeny studio, she creates objects that hold what words often can’t. 'My work is a response to a desire to 'switch off' and reconnect with our instinct - a quiet, inexplicable voice inside of us communicating an emotion or feeling that only art or music can convey. In our fast-paced technological world, it seems increasingly vital that we don't render ourselves blind to that deep primal language, so often undervalued'.
