The Cumula series, a remarkable creation by Finnish design house AaltoAalto, emerges from the context of the Fiskars Design Biennale exhibition, Hidden, in 2022, exploring the intersection of senses in design and art. A playful departure from conventional functional objects, Cumula challenges our expectations with its unique visual character—an accumulation of identical arcs that only unveils its function upon closer inspection.

Concealed beneath a soft skin, the inner materiality of the lamp remains hidden, surprising the observer with an unexpected tactile quality. The steel frame, subtly echoing elements of Bauhaus design, is delicately enveloped in a hand-crocheted outer layer. Cumula is not just a source of light; it’s a sensorial exploration, marrying form and function in an intriguing dance of elements
