The Barricade Daybed No. 2 by Around the Studio is a sculptural statement piece, crafted from stainless steel and rooted in the visual language of urban resistance. Inspired by the ongoing demonstrations and political unrest in Tbilisi, the design transforms the form of police barricades—symbols of division and protest—into an intimate, functional structure.
Echoing the industrial rigidity of barricades, the daybed’s curved legs mimic their handles while the linear frame preserves their stark, utilitarian essence. This version features a singular backrest, creating a dynamic contrast between its shorter seating area and taller back, reinforcing the interplay between protection and exposure.
A small silver-covered bird sculpture, delicately perched on the handle, introduces a poetic contrast—softening the rigid metal with a symbol of fragility and freedom. Through this juxtaposition, the Barricade Daybed No. 2 becomes more than furniture; it is a reflection on space, power, and resilience, blurring the boundary between design and sociopolitical commentary.
This bed comes with mattresses in different colors. Each mattress is made from found fabric, making every piece unique.
The Barricade Bed N2 is a fixed, non-disassemblable
