Elemental Alchemy is a large-scale, digitally fabricated modular sculpture created from innovative recipes that combine upcycled newsprint fiber with building materials such as drywall and cement. Each module is tinted with natural pigments—cochineal, turmeric, and spent coffee resin—exploring the alchemy of material transformation and the intersection of hand-craft, sustainability, and design.

Developed through sub-D digital modeling and milled with a 5-axis CNC machine, the work translates virtual geometries into tactile, human-scale modules. The composition evokes a family of forms—curvatures that lean, stack, and embrace—suggesting femininity, fertility, and the continuity of life. One module appears pregnant, grounding the ensemble in the quiet strength of creation.

Elemental Alchemy embodies the convergence of digital precision and material intuition, where ancestral echoes, tactile imperfection, and technological innovation meet. It reflects the ephemeral and ever-changing nature of human experience, celebrating the beauty of transformation and the poetic resilience of form.

Lili Yas Tayefi is an Iranian-Canadian designer, educator, and interdisciplinary artist whose abstract sculptures unearth an intuitive process reflecting her inner emotional and spiritual journey, often exploring themes of femme advocacy, healing, and self-empowerment.With extensive experience in handcraft and a background in local, biodegradable material science, Lili’s practice, LYT Studio, honours 'feel first' and precision-led philosophies, revealing how they intersect. Her practice incorporates contemporary ceramic sculpture and clay 3D printing, alongside filmmaking, painting, and printmaking. Embedded with duality, Lili's works invite an exploration of identity, intersectional feminism, and the reclamation of her culture.Over the past 15 years, she has coordinated and curated group exhibitions, and exhibited internationally at notable galleries and museums, including Museo d'Historia de Barcelona, Arts Santa Monica, Contemporary Calgary, the Museum of Contemporary Art Calgary, Center for Contemporary Printmaking, and Caroun Gallery, among others.
