“Warmer Waters” is a sculptural lamp that serves as a metaphor for the evolution and adaptation necessary to transcend outdated ideals of masculinity. Inspired by the Ice Fish, known for its extraordinary adaptations to survive in the harshest environments, this lamp symbolizes the journey of self-discovery and the need for change.
The base of the lamp is a semi-spherical structure, meticulously crafted by layering various shapes and colours of clay into a spherical mould. Details are then carefully glazed in contrasting materials to accentuate these layered details. This method creates a cosmos-like effect, where the surface resembles psychedelic oceans with swirling patterns and vibrant hues. The intricate design of the base captures the essence of the cosmos’ vastness and the ocean’s depths, elluding the complexity and fluidity of human identity and the constant motion of change. The satin 3D-printed fish is designed to appear as if leaping from the base. Nickel electro-plated fins and silver-leaf accents catch and reflect the light of the piece. The lamp is designed to provide soft, ambient lighting, making it suitable for various interior settings such as living rooms, bedrooms, or study areas.
The lamp uses a standard E14 bulb connection. It comes with an EU standard plug but can be changed as needed. The vertical rod holding the light fixture is detachable for safe transport.
