The Two Halves credenza, from Nolan T.K’s Contemporary Waste collection, is an example of designing through curation. By first selecting the found materials he wanted to use; stone, wire shelf, OSB and corrugated plastic, the limitations of these materials informed the design. The 24×12″ rough dimensions of the stone tiles largely influenced the overall silhouette of the piece. The OSB box adds a vertical division as well as torsional rigidity to the piece. The three layer laminated top visually grounds the piece as well as secures the wire shelf sides together.
– Fasteners are highlighted not hidden
– this piece is a one off and is made from diverted waste
– Materials natural variation and patina from previous use is embraced, sometimes resulting in non uniformity and irregularities in finish
