From a salvaged piece of stone, Oskar de Roover Objects designed the whole table according to circular design principles. The stone is not further processed and lies loose on a base in stainless steel that matches its existing dimensions. The large diameter of the legs (154mm – hence the name) allows the legs to be attached to a frame with nuts and bolts. This makes the table dismountable and thus easier to move, but also ensures that individual parts can be replaced. Because the stainless steel is left untreated and not glued to other materials, it is 100% recyclable.
The overall design plays with the contrast between the lightness and heaviness of the materials used. The heaviest component, the top, is made visually as light as possible by the recessed frame on which it
rests. The legs, which are relatively light because they are hollow tubes, are given a very solid appearance. By hiding all the fastenings and aligning the frame corners with the middle of the legs, all the
parts appear to be simply stacked on top of each other.
Table 154 is made to order in various dimensions and kinds of natural stone, 100% by hand in Belgium by the finest stone and steel craftsmen.
