The two-sided Spegla is an interior object that works both as a mirror and a candle holder. The circular glass sheet reflects the light of the room when the candle isn’t lit. While the candle is burning, the glass sheet transmits the light through the glass in a fascinating way at the same time as the outer edge is glowing. The glass-block is made of K9 crystal glass. The semi-opaque mirror glass cut by water-jet technique in Sweden.
I noticed that most candle holder don’t interact with the candle and the light. I wanted to create something that changed and transform the light of the candle. At the same time I didn’t want it to be obvious to understand how the candle holder works at first sight.
When testing different glass I previously have been working with in art objects/installations, I fell for the semi transparent mirror glass because it gives this mysterious effect that makes you question if it is a real candle or a projection, is the candle behind the mirror or in fornt. I also felt enthusiastic over the major transformation from mirror to candle holder and how the background light and the glowing edge frames the glass.
