Description

This luxurious elegant set is made of natural crystals. Smoky & Rock crystal. The shot glasses are accompanied by the stone of their origin, which functions as their carrier or holder.
The carafe’s handle is the core of the crystal which was extracted in order to create the necessary void.
Each of the items reveals the traces of it’s making & manifests it’s natural, raw appearance.
These are part of our ‘Dining-Vessels’ project.

For that project we have been questioning and observing the varied significances and utensils for dining as a custom. Which, as assumed, began since men created a community. From its very beginning, it is commonly a custom of sharing, being together, merely. Whether it is for the sake of a daily necessity, feeding. A kind of celebration, or a romantic dinner for two. It is in fact a ceremony. For which men invented & incorporated so many varied accessories & utensils to grant the participants the possibility to unfold all that it offers. From practical dining vessels which allowed the sharing & eating of the food easily & pleasantly, to atmosphere influencers such as a central fire around which all could gather. Candle holders spread between the presented dishes to see be seen. Flower vases, chandeliers hovering above the table, & more. When placing aside the mere necessity of eating, this ceremony holds from sensual experiences of smell, flavour, sight, sound, to the practice of communication, closeness, at times with a dash of intimacy.
We have chosen to highlight its festivity by our vessels to bring forward two aspects. The one is the aspect of sharing (all our vessels are made as sets, there is no fitting item for the solitaire dinner/eater) & the other is the manifestation of sight & touch, hence directing the spot-light to colour, form, structure & all that the eye is capable to grasp.
After all, the eye is the first to feast.

About Studio DO Visit Showroom →

Studio DŌ | Label & Labour Studio DO is a stone cutting atelier founded by Dana Seachuga and Octave Vandeweghe. These two creatives work independently: Dana as a jewelry maker and Octave as an artist. For Studio DO they joined forces and share their creative visions and expertise. Based in Antwerp, the city of diamonds, Studio DO | Label & Labour is connecting to the city’s history related to stone cutting. Although the industry of diamond cutting is very small in relation to the past, the city of Antwerp is still an icon in diamond-business. The craft of cutting (semi-)precious gemstones on the other hand, disappeared almost entirely. The traditional (and often old fashioned) craft is labour intensive and the affordability of local production is troublesome. Driven by their affection for stone cutting, Studio DO is investigating the craft to deliver a more contemporary approach and to make it functionable within the current markets. Whether based on old or new techniques, they search for progressive possibilities, complemented by a fresh design approach. Therefore they research how to refine traditional techniques towards a more sober making process. While they also learn how to make use of new stone related technologies, in order to make unique objects or smaller series of objects. Further on they study other crafts to find alternative solutions and overthrow conventions. Studio DO | Label & Labour works on design projects, and takes commissions related to art, stones, objects and jewelry. Label & Labour stand along each other as one, becoming inseparable.
