SLUMP vase – capturing ideas of form, structure and failure; the pleated paper form is translated into a fine bone china that is stressed through the excessive heat of the furnace into a poetic collapse. Developed in the studio of artists Ivan Morison and Heather Peak Morison, manufactured by our traditional potters in Stoke-on-Trent, finished in the workshops of General Life.
The fold is a characteristic motif within the work of Ivan and Heather and can be seen also in their large public architectural works. The forms of these vases originates in the hundreds of various models and maquettes that are made as part of their artistic process. With these “Slump” vases one of these maquettes is skillfully translated into fine bone china, and the process turned on its head to allow the firing process itself to create the unique curving form of each vessel.
Due to the slumping process each vase is unique, however buyers can request one of five slump variations from “no slump” to “slight slump” then “half slump” onto “full slump” and finally “total slump” – PLEASE SPECIFY ‘SLUMP VARIETY’ IN ‘NOTES’ SECTION IN ORDERING PROCESS
