A dull and boring near-futuristic world, Midtopia lies between utopia and dystopia, adjacent to Michel Foucault’s concept of Heterotopia. Early science fiction envisioned a techno-Garden of Eden, but our view shifted instead toward a decaying world driven by wars and anthropocenic events.
Yet, what if the future was neither good nor bad, but just mid?
This collection revolves around a 2052 short story where a protagonist, surviving by selling their memories to a sadistic superintelligence, suddenly contemplates escape from their sanitized purgatory.
The objects in the collection are conceived as tangible artifacts of this society running on autopilot. Their creation process emerges from a constant dialogue between traditional methods like modeling and slab building, alongside digital tools such as 3D printing. This approach mirrors the tension between the biological and the mineral, with each stoneware piece carefully painted to create the illusion of a relic abandoned to time that embodies the melancholy of mass standardization.
